We cook out a lot. We spend a lot of time grilling and eating outdoors. It’s so nice to be able to cook and eat outside? And often, when we do, we have company over. The last thing I want them to leave thinking is, “The food was good, but these damn bug bites … ”
The Thermacell Trailblazer and Scout Camp Lanterns provide hours of bright light and proven protection from mosquitoes, black flies, and other biting insects. So cool, right? The repellent creates a 15 x 15-foot zone of protection.
Assembly is easy. There’s a butane tank inside the lantern and a small repellent rectangle that slides in the top of the lantern. You turn it on and you’re ready to go. I’ve brought this out a few times now and, luckily, I haven’t had any trouble with mosquitoes.
My gripe with it, though, is while the initial investment is cheap, maintaining it is a lot. The butane tank lasts for 12 hours. We haven’t used it for 12 hours yet (we’ve only had it a couple weeks), but I’m dreading it dying and us needing a new one. They’re not thatbad though. You can purchase a refill with three mats (which last 4 hours each) and one butane refill for $7.99.
